Empowering employees the right way

by | 13 Sep, 2018 | People

Gone are the days where employees simply clocked in and out, being told exactly what to do and when. Managers now look at empowering employees to run the business in new and efficient ways.

It’s really very simple: good employee morale is good for business.

If you have happy employees, they’re going to work harder for you and boost your productivity; they’re going to tell everyone about you to boost your reputation; and they’re going to be invested in finding ways to improve the business and boost your growth.

Employees are motivated by being involved. It really is that simple.

According to research performed by the Harvard Business Review, employees that feel empowered at work, “felt a greater sense of autonomy or control in their work, they felt that their job had meaning and it aligned with their values, that they were competent in their abilities, and that they could make a difference.”

But empowering employees requires a great deal of trust

This might sound ridiculous; you hired them so surely you must trust them?

But as CEO of a growing business it can be hard to relinquish control. Your business was born from your idea. It’s your passion and love that’s nurtured it over the months and years and got it to this point; stepping back and handing over your baby is never going to be easy, but it is necessary if you’re going to continue growing and succeeding.
