It is important to acknowledge the end of a probationary period for both sides. Whether it’s a one, three or a six month probationary period, here’s a process for the successful outcome of an employee’s probationary period. 

Closing a probationary period

1Notify employee’s line manager that probationary period is ending soon

Subject: Closing of Employee Initial Employment Probationary Period

Dear__________

[employee name] employment probationary period is due to end on the [date]. With this in mind, please could I ask you to confirm whether [he/she] has passed, failed or if you would like to extend the probationary period.

I would be grateful if you could confirm your decision to me by [date], so I can issue you the appropriate letter for signature.

2.1Obtain a signed letter for distribution to employee

2.2Scan the signed letter and file in the employee’s HR personnel file
